2ND ANNUAL CONFERENCE
STUDENTS FOR CRITICAL ANIMAL STUDIES (SCAS)

Different, but Equals:
Basic Rights for All Vulnerable Selves
The demo will take place downtown Montreal in collaboration with the 2nd Annual conference of the Students for Critical Animal Studies (SCAS).
Students for Critical Animal Studies is an international association of students dedicated to the abolition of animal exploitation, oppression, and domination. SCAS challenges students to view social justice from a more inclusive and intersectional perspective, while providing a forum for the meeting of academia and activism.
The event will give participants of the conference an opportunity to bring together theory and activism, experience “what it is like” to raise your voice for other animals in a public context.
In turn, it will expose passers-by to progressive ideas about other animals and their situation by being encouraged to listen, engage in dialogue, ask questions and get involved.
Participant who are willing will prepare a 30 sec. to 2 minutes script, spoken word, poem, testimony, proclamation, an appeal for action, etc.
We will use the Human Microphone technique to amplify the speaker’s voice, so it is important to prepare short sentences and concise ideas.
We encourage the people at the conference to use this opportunity to translate the insights they take away from the talks into simple language and suitable for public outreach in the form of a short script.
Topics may include animal consciousness and animal capabilities, info about the realities of the lives of other animals, the links between animal justice, social justice and environmental justice, visions for a respectful society, etc.
The other participants will hold up posters and signs picturing the lives of animals in the industry versus how their lives could be. There will be slogans along the lines of “Open your eyes to animal realities” and images displaying social behaviours and animals capabilities.
Signs should not be too graphic and there will also be positive images.
If you have suggestion about these signs, slogans or images, please send them to christianebailey@gmail.com before March 20 so we have time to print them.

Les droits fondamentaux pour tous les individus vulnérables
La manifestation se tiendra au centre-ville de Montréal en collaboration avec la deuxième conférence annuelle des étudiants pour les Études animales critiques.
Les Étudiants pour les Études animales critiques est une association internationale d’étudiants travaillant à l’abolition de l’exploitation, de l’oppression et de la domination des animaux. EEAC encourage les étudiants à concevoir la justice sociale de façon plus inclusive et dans une perspective intersectionnelle et à promouvoir la rencontre des intellectuels et des activistes.
Cet événement offrira l’occasion aux participants de la conférence de marier la théorie et l’activisme et l’opportunité de faire entendre leur voix pour les autres animaux dans un contexte grand public.
Cela permettra aux passants d’être exposés à des idées progressistes à propos de nos traitements des autres animaux, d’écouter, d’apprendre, de discuter, de poser des questions et de s’impliquer pour changer les choses.
Les participants intéressés sont invités à préparer une courte présentation de 30 secondes à 2 minutes sous forme de texte, de poème, de témoignage, un appel à l’action, etc.
Nous utiliserons la technique du microphone humain pour amplifier la voix de celles et ceux qui prendront la parole. Il est important de préparer des phrases courtes et des idées concises.
Nous encourageons les gens présents à la conférence d’utiliser cette opportunité pour traduire une idée qu’ils ont retenue dans un langage simple et adéquat pour un grand public.
Le sujets peuvent inclure des informations sur les conditions de vie et de mort des animaux, sur leurs capacités émotionnelles, sociales et cognitives, des idées sur les liens entre la justice animale, la justice sociale et la justice environnementale et des modèles de ce que pourrait avoir l’air un monde respectueux de tous individus les plus vulnérables.
Les autres participants tiendront des posters et des pancartes montrant la réalité de l’existence des animaux dans les industries qui les exploitent et contrastant cette réalité avec la vie qu’ils auraient pu avoir.
Il y aura des slogans tels que « Ouvrons les yeux sur la réalité des autres animaux » et des images montrant les aptitudes émotionnelles, sociales et cognitives des autres animaux.
Les images ne seront pas trop graphiques et il y aura des images positives et inspirantes.
Les volontaires créatifs qui ont des suggestions, svp envoyer les images haute résolution ou des idées de slogan (anglais ou français)à christianebailey@gmail.com avant le 20 Mars pour que nous les imprimions.
